“I liked the layout as well as the variety of things you could do with the system (e.g. tracking types of cases, for statistical purposes). Also, and perhaps most importantly, I like the technical support that is available. For instance, I can call most anytime and get a tech guy on the phone.”Chris McCool
District Attorney
The Twenty-fourth Circuit District Attorney’s Office serves approximately 55,000 people in Lamar, Fayette, and Pickens counties of west-central Alabama. The office, headed by District Attorney Chris McCool, began looking for a case management system in the spring of 2006. They evaluated many software solutions and selected JustWare | Prosecutor.
Prior to implementing JustWare | Prosecutor, the Twenty-fourth Circuit DA’s Office didn’t have an automated case management system that took a case beyond the Grand Jury stage, not through the trial stage.
As they began planning to purchase a case management system, they decided that three of their major requirements were remote access, security and confidentiality, and automated grand jury dockets.
The District Attorney’s Office selected JustWare | Prosecutor in October 2006 and went live with JustWare on April 19, 2007.
District Attorney Chris McCool said, “I liked the layout as well as the variety of things you could do with the system (e.g. tracking types of cases, for statistical purposes). Also, and perhaps most importantly, I like the technical support that is available. For instance, I can call most anytime and get a tech guy on the phone.”
The Twenty-fourth Circuit DA’s JustWare Administrator, Dottie Brasher, said “I’ve always had a good response from New Dawn’s support team and good luck with them getting online with me.”
According to Dottie, the fact that they can access JustWare from all of their county offices is a great convenience. She said, “I worked on the system from our Lamar County office this morning with no problems,” and “I can call people in our other offices to see what’s going on with a case and they are looking at the same information. It’s extremely helpful.”
The office would like to be able to implement the grand jury dockets as a real-time form allowing batch updates to cut down on data entry. This functionality is currently in development for the latest version of JustWare. The office will upgrade to take advantage of this functionality.
In addition to giving all Twenty-fourth Circuit DA Office users access to the same information, the latest version of JustWare includes flexible XML design will allow them to customize their data entry and view screens for different their county offices and practice groups.
Dottie thinks that when they have a few years of data in the system, JustWare generated statistics will be of great benefit to their office. She said “we get a lot of funding from grants and we need numbers for grants.”
