“Compared to our JALAN system, we are now able to save approximately 30-40 minutes of data entry time, per case, with the JustWare system and Spillman interface. At the present time, we are able to obtain not only the booking information for defendants, but are able to obtain names of witnesses, victims and officers as well.”Jan Budden

When both the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department decided to upgrade their case management solutions, it was vital for them to find a replacement that would not only meet their individual agency’s needs, but would also work with the other’s system to maintain their data sharing environment.
Douglas County District Attorney’s Office (DCDAO) and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department had purchased JALAN to handle their case management needs in 1989. This AS400 system was chosen because of the ability to share information between the two agencies. In 2007, both parties decided that the JALAN software program had outlived its usefulness. Upon beginning their search for a new CMS, the most important factor was to find one that could share information between the two agencies. The Sheriff’s Office selected a records management/CAD solution from Spillman Technologies. The DCDAO required a prosecutor technology solution that could generate statistical reports, generate documents and compile case and name information in a central location. When the DCDAO began their search for case management software, they were directed to JustWare | Prosecutor developed by New Dawn Technologies. It was important for each of the agencies to have access to each other’s case information as well as statistical reporting. With JustWare and Spillman technologies, both agencies received the individual solution that was right for them as well as the ability to work together by receiving automatic data updates from the others system.
JustWare was selected to replace the AS400 system, JALAN, for the DCDAO. Because integration between the two agencies was so important, work began immediately to develop an electronic interface. The interface would be used to obtain data from bookings completed at the sheriff’s department.
New Dawn Technologies worked comprehensively with Spillman Technologies to ensure the success of the interface tool. The interface withstood many rigorous tests to guarantee its ability to meet both agencies’ needs. With this new interface, both agencies have the ability to receive automatic data updates concerning jail bookings, court dates, statistical information and case details.
